Do you think you have what it takes to be a West Melton School Ambassador for 2020?
As a leader of the school, you will need to be an exemplary role model in all areas of school life, have a proven track record of responsibility and integrity, have the confidence to lead school events and be an ambassador for West Melton School.
There will be 4 Ambassadors in 2020.
To be considered for Ambassador 2020 selection, you need to:
Voting will be by WMI students, teachers and senior management.

- Produce a maximum 2 page curriculum vitae explaining your skills, attributes and experience that will enable you to succeed in this role,
- Produce a covering letter to Mrs Jackson to explain why you should be considered for this role,
- Submit these to Mrs Jenkins by 3pm Monday of Week 4 (Monday 4th November 2019),
- You will then be interviewed by an interview panel which may include senior management and a member of the BOT.
Voting will be by WMI students, teachers and senior management.

NYLD 2019
NYLD (National Young Leaders Day) 2019
We are delighted to inform you that West Melton School has registered and paid for 25 of our Year 7 and 8 leaders to attend the NYLD at Horncastle Arena , on Thursday 30 May. Those attending this year are the West Melton Ambassadors, Whānau Leaders and Student Executive. They will be accompanied by Mrs Jenkins and Ms Riley.
We will be leaving school at 8.35 a.m. and returning at approximately 3.15 p.m. Bus children will not be able to travel home on the bus on this day. Arrangements will need to be made to collect your child from school at this time if they normally travel on the bus. Please let me know if this is likely be a problem.
Please email me back if your child cannot attend so we can reassign their ticket ([email protected]).
Tickets to this event are covered by the school as we see real value in the knowledge that the students will obtain from this day. We are requesting a contribution of $10 per student to cover the cost of transport to and from the venue. This will appear on your school account unless you contact me to make other arrangements.

Whānau Leaders |
Applications are open for this year's Whānau Leaders.
Written submissions are due by Friday morning tea 15th February 2019. (Applicants have been given time in class to work on their applications today). Documents can be printed by Mrs Jenkins in class on Friday. Shortlisting will be carried out by the teachers responsible for student leadership based on the quality of the submissions. Shortlisted candidates will present a two minute presentation to all year 5 - 8s on Tuesday 19th February, followed by a secret ballot voted by students and teachers. 12 Whānau leaders will be chosen. The role of the Whānau Leader is to lead their whānau to success throughout the year. They will be required to:
Who can be a Whānau leader?
Key Attributes of a Whānau leader:
· Be a reliable role model of the school values
· Be trusted and respected by your peers
· Have good organization skills be able to give clear instructions
· Be enthusiastic and friendly
· Be patient and caring
· Have strong communication skills
· Have a desire to interact with others through whānau leadership
· Be quietly confident when managing a group of students from a range of year levels
· Be prepared to complete training sessions and to use own time to prepare for whānau events
· Work well with others in team situations
· Support and participate when requested
· Know how and when to seek help
How to become a Whānau leader:
1) You will need to apply for the position:
In your application will be in the form of a one page document in any format. It must include:

3) The 12 Whānau Leaders will be chosen from a combination of teacher and student votes via a secret ballot.
The role of the Whānau Leader is to lead their whānau to success throughout the year. They will be required to:
- Be an inspirational role model at all times for the members of their whānua, demonstrating consistent ICE DRIVER values
- Work as a team with the other whānau leaders
- Prepare for, lead and manage their whānau meetings
- Lead the whānau chant confidently whenever this is required
- Assist in the organisation and running of whānau rewards and whānua points
- Step up enthusiastically to any other whānau or leadership responsibilities
Who can be a Whānau leader?
- Any year 7 or 8 student can apply to be a whānau leader
- Successful applicants may be required to change whānua to ensure two leaders for each whānua group

- any experience you may have that will show us how good you will be at the job
- what great qualities you can bring to the job
- why you think we should choose you
- a signature from your parents saying that they support your application to be a Whānau Leader which may interfere with your classroom programme.
