With the year coming to an end we would both like to wish all families a safe and happy holiday. This time of the year marks the last days of our Year 8 students. What a fantastic bunch of students! We wish you well for the next stage of your journey. To the Year 7 students leaving to go to other schools we wish you well for your Year 8 experience.
Thank you to all the families that supported our camp. Without the hard work and your dedication the students would not have been able to have the fantastic experiences that they did. A special thank you to Darren, Ginna, Annette, Brett, Anna, Josh, Barry and Sonya for being our fantastic parent helpers. You were a big part of the experiences that the students will remember. A couple of reminders, the Year 8 and Whanau Leaders trip to Jelli Park needs to be paid by Monday. All forms or an email stating that they have permission to attend needs to be returned no later than Monday. No form/ payment will mean your child has opted out the optional day out. The Year 8 leavers dinner is also on Wednesday 11 December. Please ensure if your child is attending (Year 8s) that you have emailed myself or Anna to confirm how many people will be attending. The cost of the evening is $20.00 payable at the restaurant. Aaron and Anna

This week has seen WMI students taking part in some awesome local events:
Ryder, Nash, Oli and Luke represented WMI in the school choir and took part in the Christchurch Schools' Choir Festival at the Town Hall last night. Everyone who went reports that they sounded amazing! We sent a team of boys to the Summer Tournament Cricket Tournament (unfortunately no other schools entered a girls' team for us to compete against). The boys had a great day and showed great sportsmanship throughout the event. Today 20 WMI students are attending Zone Athletics, competing in a wide range of events against the best from other schools in the area. 17 students have been interviewed to become 2020 Ambassadors, and did an awesome job. Next stage of selection is voting by all staff and year 7 students. We say goodbye to Mr Gaskin (Henry) , our Grad Student who finishes with us today. Henry has been a real asset to our community and has built great relationships with our students. He has secured a job for next year in Wellington and we wish him all the best for his teaching career. We will email out an information sheet on Monday with further details about our Wellington Camp, including a KIT list. Please note that students will be able to bring a carry-on bag and a check-in bag. Their sleeping bag will need to be in one of these bags. Some dates for your diary: Friday 15th November: No School - Canterbury Anniversary Day Monday 18th November: Teacher Only Day - no school Monday 25th - Friday 29th November: Wellington Camp Friday 13th December - Prizegiving 1pm WM Community Centre Have a great weekend! Anna and Aaron Welcome back to Term 4!
Well done to all our students who competed hard and had fun at the Senior Athletics on Monday. We had some senior school records broken and will be sending students to Zones - names will be announced very soon. A big thanks to all parents who came along to help out on the day. Camp newsletter and forms came home on Tuesday, along with an indication of how much your child has raised through fundraising (when Hannah is back in school she will be adding this amount as a credit on your school account). Please return the forms asap and make any outstanding payment. Any questions or issues you would like to discuss please don't hesitate to contact Anna or Aaron. We have been finalising the activities for Wellington, and we are really confident that the camp will be challenging, interesting and a heap of fun for us and your kids. Applications are open for School Ambassadors for 2020 (closing date Monday 4th November 2019 - week 4) - all information is under 'Leadership' on this website. Any questions please speak to Anna. Remember hats every day please for Term 4, and keep uniform standards high. Regards Anna and Aaron Wow! We've made it through to the end of Term 3 and, as we hoped, we are ending on a real high for WMI. The team has experienced success both individually, in groups and as a community, and we are very proud of every single learner. This week has seen WMI actively taking part in Book Week, with a visit from Bob Docherty (who runs the blog Bob's Books bobsbooksnz.wordpress.com/), supporting the younger children in buddy reading, a visit from Selwyn Library talking about graphic novels and the end of week Book Character Parade. Koru Games was a massive success for all concerned - the students were organised, enthusiastic and showed off WMI students in the very best light. Thanks to all parents that came along to help and support. We have collated our final totals for all the fundraising towards the Wellington camp. A massive thank you to all students and families that have organised and taken part in fundraising projects. We have raised more than $14000 which will be shared out to the students based on the projects they have taken part in (as a credit on student accounts by the start of term 4). We have sold all the tickets now for cow poo bingo and so this will be run in the next few days (watch out on this website for cow pat updates!). A final car wash is planned for Sunday 20th October, the proceeds of which will be split between the families that turn up on that day. All students will need a school sunhat from the start of week 1. We will be starting a unit called 'Sexuality Road' during Term 4. This will be taught by both Aaron and Anna, in mixed groups and sometimes to separate boys and girls groups. This unit has been developed by Family Planning and the Ministry of Health. If you would like to discuss this unit further, or would wish for your child to opt out of this unit, please contact us. Thanks for all your support this term, and have restful and fun break. See you all in Term 4! Aaron and Anna We are very excited about the Koru Games next week, where students from WMI will be competing against other local intermediate school in a wide range of different sports in Lincoln, Rolleston and Prebbleton from Tuesday to Thursday. What a great way to celebrate such a busy and successful term for WMI! Students will be provided with sports gear which they should wear each day. They will also need a sunhat, extra named layers in case it turns cold, plenty of food and a named water bottle. Students will take a bus to and from the events from school each day.
Some congratulations to WMI students over the past few weeks. Hamish and Bryn competed in the Ellesmere Speech competition. They both did an amazing job and Hamish managed to win the first prize for year 7. Our two Hip Hop teams competed at Hornby High School and won first and second in their competition! Well done to everyone involved! The fundraising car wash and sausage sizzle is taking place on Sunday from 10.30am to 4.30pm on the school carpark. Come along and help out, or come and get your car washed! We have almost finalised the timetable for Wellington from the plans that the students produced - a draft copy is attached here. We are estimating the total cost will be $580, this amount will be charged to your account, and then all extra fundraising (both individual and whole class) will be credited to your student's account to offset this total. Please make sure that your students are relaxed and well rested ready for the last two weeks so that we finish the term well and successfully.
