Hello parents and caregivers,
As we post this KIT notice, we are surrounded by WMI learners fully engrossed and engaged in their Financial Literacy Inquiry, working hard to finalise their team proposals ready for Dragons' Den presentations over the next few weeks. The inquiry has been challenging, both academically and emotionally, and we are very excited to see their finished products and hopefully their profitable success! All profit made will be shared directly with the group members to go towards their Wellington Camp. A big thank you to everyone who came along to the fundraising meeting, we had a very productive discussion about fundraising projects that we could run to reduce the costs of the Wellington camp for all families. A Facebook Messenger group has been set up called WMI Fundraisers 2019 if you are interested in getting involved. Please visit the maths page to learn about visual learning in mathematics. Some upcoming events: Monday - Zones Cross Country Tuesday - Rotary Intermediate Quiz - Alex G and Meredith R representing WMI Wednesday - Teachers' strike - school closed Thursday - National Young Leaders' Day, Horncastle Arena (Ambassadors, Whānau Leaders and Student Exec attending with Mrs Jenkins) - Goal Setting Meetings afternoon (Mr T) and evening (Mr T and Mrs J) Friday - Goal Setting Meetings all day (students only attend at time of their meeting). We hope everyone had a fantastic break over the term holidays. This term is extremely busy for us as we ramp up our learning around financial literacy. This Inquiry unit will focus around a business plan to sell goods or a service for Gala Day. The money raised will go towards our Wellington Camp. Please ask your child what they have been doing so that they may be successful with their venture.
On Monday we had our school cross country. It was a great effort by all students who competed. All students should be proud of themselves as they all gave it 100%. Well done to Brooklyn who broke the Year 7 Boys school record. Also thanks to all those year 7 and 8s who helped out with the younger students, you were amazing role models and an asset to WMI. On Monday we have the ASB Get Wise Team coming out to see us. Students will be learning about financial planning, how to make your money work and other great initiatives. Wednesday will see us back at Hornby High. The students have swapped their technology classes and they all seem excited and motivated to get the most out of it. If you would like to see how technology works at Hornby High please feel free to email me and we can show you around. On the 21 May we are holding a fundraising evening for parents. We need your help and for you to have an understanding of how these events are planning out, and this meeting will explain this to you. We will begin at 6.00 and finish approximately 6.30. Venue WMI classroom. On 11 June we will be holding our open evening for WMI. Students run this event and it is a great way to see their developing leaderships skills put to good to use. We are changing things this year with 2 sessions. One beginning at 3.15 through to 4.30pm and the other from 7pm through to 8.15pm. We will notify the students in the next two weeks if they are part of the presentation. Please pass this information on to any new prospective parents that you may know about. Take care Aaron and Anna |
